We’re a small group of people with ME and/or Long Covid and related conditions who are sick and tired of the isolation that comes with chronic fatigue. And of getting knocked back if we try to socialise because it’s such a huge step between our pace of life and a normal pace of life. We hope by designing Resilient Cohousing to suit us we can create a way to live with other people who understand what it is to have to manage our energy.
This website explains how we see a community open to anyone interested in managing energy and sensitivities, whatever their health status. We think it needs to be cooperative, rural, with fully accessible individual dwellings as well as a shared house … and, at its heart, a retreat for people with severe energy issues…
We plan to use permaculture for health, creativity for inspiration, and rewilding for peace… to be eco-aware and focused on managing our energy levels, peace and respite. Preferably some dwellings will be off-grid to avoid emf radiation and other forms of toxin, but not all.

.
It’s still early days for the project, so if you have your own ideas, they’re very welcome – we’re very happy to be flexible. What we describe is a suggestion of how we might go about cooperating with varied and variable energy, but other ideas/adaptions are very welcome.

.
Cooperating with little and variable energy is relatively new and how it works will depend very much on the individuals involved…so we’re planning this project to be flexible, using our Hare and Tortoise site, specially designed to help cooperation between people with different and differing energy levels. And using permaculture principles, which aim to support communities of humans as well as plants – energy efficiently.
We’re especially concerned that the community should be set up so that more energetic people don’t feel pressured into sharing the energy they have while – equally important – it isn’t dominated by those with more energy.

.
The rest of this site gives more detail and discussion – there’s an outline of how we think it could work on the How it Could Work page. And suggest a (possibly) useful perspective on working together in Social Permaculture, however there are many ways to explore.

.
Interaction, the Action for ME magazine, recently published a great article on our project, which gives a good brief overview of what’s involved. You can read it here.
